The scholars spent a busy afternoon working with their mentors to narrow their mission goals and discuss solutions to technological challenges. These mentors, coming from all backgrounds, provided valuable insight into the engineering processes involved in designing a mission. With the guidance of these mentors, the students prepared an outstanding series of daily debrief presentations. After wrapping up a busy afternoon, the students visited the Virginia Living Museum and were treated to a private event at the museum. Students viewed a planetarium show on the sinking of the Titanic and learned how climate cycles may have factored into the ship’s demise. The scholars also learned about Virginia species, and had the opportunity to come face-to-face with all kinds of animals. Museum volunteers also had live animals available for the students to learn about and touch, including a screech owl for the students to take owl-fies with! |
