This morning, the scholars toured NASA Langley’s hangar and contamination facilities. At the hangar, NASA Research Scientist Michael Obland led students on a tour of NASA’s various aircraft. Students had the opportunity to look inside aircraft specially modified for conducting science experiments. Gugu Rutherford, Contamination Control and Planetary Protection Engineer, and Joseph O’Connell, Thermal Vacuum Engineer, showed students the contamination laboratories and testing areas, as well as NASA’s 3D printing lab.

At the afternoon mission debrief, the scholars were questioned by a panel of mentors on their missions. While the students were nervous, they came away from the debrief with new questions and ideas to discuss. Tonight the students will examine the science behind their missions and determine how to move forward with their missions. | |
